I was certain that I'd already reviewed this one, but I don't see it here... so I'll do it again. WHAT a cute movie and so well done. From the casting to the humor to the special effects, this movie has it all.
This is one of those rare movies that is better than the book, at least in my humble opinion. This is a fantastic piece of fantasy, with all the old familiar themes, loads of humor, and some very likable characters with a few twists thrown in. From the best kiss on the cheek ever to a rousing rendition of the can can that you will NEVER forget.
Yes, I usually avoid things with Claire Danes in them, and she was the weakest link in this movie... but apart from some distracting scenes where her strangely absent eyebrows and large, fake looking teeth are annoying... she's fine in this too.
I almost forgot to mention the best fight scene in a movie EVER at the end with Septimus. Extremely original. You won't forget it.
I give this a good five stars for enjoyment. Stop here if you haven't seen it... because - HERE COME THE *SPOILERS*
From the fantastic role of Mr Arthur Weasley as Billy the Goat turned human to Michele Pfeiffer as the wicked witch queen, the casting is great. We love the guy who plays Septimus, the seventh brother. And while we are on the subject, the dead brothers that hang around the one survivor are MAGNIFICENT.
Robert DeNiro... oh, whoever got him to take this role was a genius! I can't spoil it for you even though I warned you that these were spoilers - but this entire movie would be worth it for DeNiro alone.
